Biography
ERIC A. KRACHT is Of Counsel to KRACHT HUDDLESTON ASAY, LLP. His nearly 50-year practice, based in Baton Rouge, is business-oriented with a significant concentration in construction matters including mediation, arbitration and litigation. Ric majored in Business and Finance at LSU and was a licensed general contractor before starting his law practice in 1977. Ric is a member of the American Arbitration Association's Panel of Arbitrators, has spoken at numerous seminars involving construction law issues, and was a Construction Law Lecturer at LSU. Ric resides in Baton Rouge with his wife, Jackie; they have two children and four grandchildren.
Over 48 years' experience as civil trial lawyer and over 35 years' experience as arbitrator and mediator. Currently engaged in litigation, arbitration, and mediation of construction disputes. Ninety percent of practice is in construction law, representing general contractors, subcontractors, owners (including public bodies), developers, architects and engineers in disputes involving industrial and commercial projects, including power plants, chemical plants, heat recovery (HRSG) projects, refineries, modular buildings, cold storage facilities, highways, bridges, sewerage systems, wastewater treatment, drainage systems, airport runways, utilities, hotels, casinos, schools, prisons, locks and dams, tanks and vessels, apartment complexes, condominium projects, student housing, military housing, retail developments, shopping centers, and office buildings. Substantial experience in disputes related to earthwork, pile-driving, foundations, asphalt, concrete, soil cement, steel structures, EIFS, stucco, roof systems, window systems, painting/coating systems, moisture intrusion, HVAC/mechanical/electrical systems, pipe fabrication, construction defects, design deficiencies, differing site conditions, liens, scheduling, delay and disruption claims, surety bond claims and insurance coverage for construction defects.
Member of AAA Panel of Arbitrators since 1990, with experience in large, complex, and multi-party cases. Arbitrator in more than 250 cases, acting as sole arbitrator, panel member, and panel chair. Experience in arbitration of international construction disputes.
